How does a man who has a knack for drawing and, providing funny voices land a deal with a network that is worth $100 million, give up then ask Seth MacFarlane. Yes the man that has brought you such shows as Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show is also the same mastermind that has created brought you a line of DVD’s as well several books that have been created based on his Family Guy television show.
MacFarlane burst onto the scene with his breakout hit Family Guy and never looked back. Since then he has taken the world by storm His latest spark of genius comes in the form of his new show titled The Cleveland Show. Now many people when the announcement was first made was doubtful that this show would even succeed. However to all the critics the show has proven to be a smashing success.
The show follows the new life of Cleveland Brown who was one of Peter Griffins back home in Quahog . In the season eight opener Cleveland decides to pursue his dream of being a minor league baseball scout. While traveling to Los Angeles he stops in his hometown and reconnects with his old high school sweetheart; At which time he winds up marrying her and helping to raise her two kids as well as Cleveland Jr. his son from his marriage to Loretta. Who I might add had a one time affair with sexually charged neighbor Glen Quagmire. This affair led to the Brown’s splitting up and subsequently getting divorced. It is funny to note that Cleveland Jr. was only seen in a few episodes of Family Guy but then in The Cleveland Show is a preteen that has acquired a weight problem since last being seen.
This is the basic premise of the show. MacFarlane has made a living out of doing the very thing that he loves to do and has made a quite nice living at that. To the tune of $100 million that was offered to him when he and Fox Broadcasting negotiated to keep Family Guy on air through 2012.
Cleveland is now neighbors with a whole new cast of characters including a talking bear, he why not there is a talking dog on Family Guy why not a talking bear. For fans of Family Guy who are used to the kind of humor that was on the show you will be a little disappointed to see a lack of this kind of humor. In some cases people will say that it appears that they are trying to recreate Family Guy. Nonetheless it is a wonderful show that will find it’s way into the homes of America as the years go by.
There is even a rumor that there will be another spin off of the original show. Maybe fans will get to see Brian finally breakout on his own and become a massive hit. No matter what happens it is apparent that whatever Seth MacFarlane is doing, he is doing it correct and will continue to experience success for years to come.
